Difference Between Hemp Oil and CBD Oil

A quick walk through any modern grocery store might leave you slightly confused as to why there is both CBD Oil and Hemp Oil being sold. If you came in looking for a product that might help with your inflammation or sore muscles, and you will soon see that there is quite a difference.

With such an unregulated market it is easy for consumers to be uneducated about the difference between these two oils. Some labels are not clear so it is easy to mix it up, especially when there are a number of ingredients that come from the cannabis or hemp plant from CBD Oil to hemp oil, and many others. Although sometimes you see them being used interchangeably, both of these oils have theri own unique benefits.

CBD Oil

CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is a naturally occuring compound found in the flower of cannabis plants (hemp + marijuana). CBD is one of more than a hundred 'phyto-cannabinoids' -which are unique to the cannabis plant. CBD is the cousin of arguably the most famous phytocannabinoid THC (tettrahrydro-cannabidiol). THC is the compund that produces a psychoactive response that generates the "high" feeling. Unlike THC, CBD does not make you feel high or intoxicated, as it interacts with different receptors in the brain- CBD is a safe, non addictive, naturally offering substance.

CBD has many health benefits from anti-inflammatory properties, anti-nausea properties, anti-depressent properties, and many more. It’s extracted from the leaves, flowers, and stalks of the cannabis plant. CBD, otherwise known as cannabidiol- is one of over one hundred active cannabinoids that are found soely in the cannabis plant.

Hemp oil

Hemp Oil contains indigenous cannabinoids. It is a carrier oil along the same lines of sunflower seed oil or jojoba oil, it is cold pressed extract directly from seeds. It is sometimes referred to as "cannabis sativa seed oil". It is rich in antioxidants, omega-3 and -6 fatty acids, but contains no CBD. Hemp seed or cannabis sativa seed oil has been available in health food stores for decades and abundantly present in smoothies and skin care. There are no cannabinoids in Hemp Seed Oil.
