Can technology have an adverse impact on your mental health? The answer is, YES. Research shows clear spikes in the development of mental health conditions due to the addictive nature of technology. Mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, high levels of stress, and even loneliness.

While technology has been a blessing for society in so many ways, it is also disastrous for mental health. Many people find it harder to have meaningful conversations, are missing out on valuable moments in life, and have to be placed on harmful and addictive prescriptions due to diagnosis of mental health conditions.

Unplugging from technology is a solution that may seem too simple to believe however, every year The National Day of Unplugging challenges us to do just that. Unplug. Friday, March 5th we will be unplugging from all technology and we urge you to join us.

Things to do on National Unplugging Day:

  • Put your phone in a lock box

Lock box or phone jail..yes that is a thing! If those seem a bit extreme try hiding it in a dresser drawer or under your pillow for the day.

  • Go out and volunteer

Call your favorite organization in the morning and see if you can go out and volunteer! You can try calling your local high school or church and seeing if they could use a helping hand for the day.

  • Write a letter to someone special or journal

A long hand written letter may be just what someone you know needs to put a smile on their face for the day. If not, try journaling! Think of some positive memories, things on your bucket list, or even some try poetry.

  • Take your dog for a long walk

Long walks on the beach…with your pup! There is nothing better than taking some time to soak in that Vitamin D, breathing in some fresh air, and getting your heart pumping. Walking can help you get a better nights sleep, reduce anxiety and stress, and keeps you in shape!

  • Yoga with your friends

Gather with a few friends, and instead of sitting around on Insta, take an hour to stretch and do some yoga. Yoga is incredible for your mental clarity, reducing anger, anxiety, improving your mood, sleep, and decreasing any PTSD.

  • Self-care day at home

Grab a face mask, a glass of wine, a good book, light your favorite candle, and take some CBD Oil. Giving yourself some time to chill and clear your mind is unmeasurable when it comes to your mental health.

  • Get creative

Find some paint, yarn write a poem, try playing that old instrument that you haven’t pulled out of your closet since high school. Creativity uses parts of your brain that are not used on a regular basis!

  • Try some new recipes

Good food = good mood! Make some of those healthy recipes that you have bookmarked but haven’t gotten the chance to make just yet. You can even try incorporating some superfoods into your recipes such as dark leafy greens, ginger, berries, walnuts, garlic, berries, yogurt, and CBD Oil. These have been proven to help feed your brain and improve your mental health and wellness.
