Leaf Note

CBD has numerous reported health benefits, but CBD is not a miracle, fix all drug. It simply activates a system of receptors in the body that regulate sleep, immune response and inflammation. Thus why it has such a profound impact on various health issues.

CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is a naturally occurring compound found in the flower of cannabis plants (hemp + marijuana). CBD is one of more than a hundred ‘phyto-cannabinoids” -which are unique to the cannabis plant. CBD is the cousin of arguably the most famous photo-cannabinoid THC (tettrahrydro-cannabidiol)- THC is the compound that produces a psychoactive response that generates the “high” feeling, Unlike, THC, CBD does not make you feel high or intoxicated, as it interacts with different receptors in the brain- CBD is a safe, non addictive naturally offering substance.

CBD is often used to counter the psychoactive effects of THC. This makes for an appealing option for those who want the therapeutic benefits of cannabis but not the high. There is some evidence that indicates use of cannabis products I even correlated with a decrease in opioid use (the Mayo Clinic).

CBD has been found to work through a variety of complex pharmacological actions, one of which is increasing the activity of serotonin receptor s-1-11 IA. (mayo clinic ). This is linked to the anti-depressant, anti-anxiety effects many people have reported with CBD.

How does CBD work?

CBD is able to deliver all of these incredible effects through a powerful system of receptors known as the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS is responsible for regulating major functions in the body such as sleep, immune response, inflammation, etc.

The ECS is made up of CB receptors throughout your major Organs. CB1 receptors are found in the brain and CB2 receptors are found throughout the body.

CBD interacts with these receptors to help the body reach a point of homeostasis.
